BERNEDOODLE OR AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAIN DOODLE: WHICH DOODLE TO CHOOSE?

We began our breeding program with our foundation dogs Ryver (Aussiedoodle) and Skye (Bernedoodle) in late 2015. To my knowledge we were the first to do the Australian Mountain Doodle cross and we originally called them Aussie Bernedoodles. As they have become more popular, they have become better known as Australian Mountain Doodles and sometimes Aussie Mountain Doodles or Swiss Doodles.

Our program was the result of lengthy research and hands on experience around Doodles, Service Dogs and the Veterans and individuals who needed them. Our decision to include Bernedoodles, Aussiedoodles and AMD’s was the result of all my data and conversations. After all, if our canine’s can make such rewarding life changes for those with disabilities or PTSD then they have the necessary attributes to fit into the typical family and for therapy dog work.

Our end goal is always to match happy, healthy, affectionate puppies with loving families. We strongly believe in the sweet temperament and the trainability of both Australian Mountain Doodles (aka: Aussie Mountain Doodles or Aussie Bernedoodles) and Bernedoodles and feel they are both great choices for families with children, for therapy, service work or just as a personal companion. Their cuteness is just a bonus.

These breeds have a reputation as velcro dogs and will want to be included in the daily activities of their people. They will thrive on your attention and live to please their families. Their job is to be your best friend!

If you are trying to decide between them, read below for a little more information.

BERNEDOODLES

Bernedoodles are sweet, affectionate and calm. They are typically good with other pets and children and are very loyal to their families. Willing to work but content with long walks followed by relaxing at your feet. Their gentleness makes them excellent therapy dogs. Can be a little more stubborn but still very trainable especially when started young. They handle warmer weather better than a full Bernese Mtn. Dog (which thrives in very cold weather due to it’s size and double coat) and have a significantly longer lifespan than a full Bernese. They tend to be goofy cuddlers by nature and are very physical, trying to be lapdogs or wrap their paws around your leg.

AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAIN DOODLES

If you are considering either a Bernedoodle or an Aussiedoodle, the Australian Mountain Doodle may be the best of both. Australian Mountain Doodles are a unique blend of Australian Shepherd, Poodle & Bernese Mountain Dog which results in an intelligent, social and intuitive companion. They are versatile and have a very nice low to medium energy. Eager to please, very affectionate and loving, they are a great family dog with very good hybrid vigor in a nice medium size. They mature quickly and are very trainable (from the Aussie side). Their intellect and willingness to please are good Service Dog traits. They can be a little more vocal and a little more active than a Bernedoodle so good for active families or someone wanting a hiking or trail companion.

Australian Mountain Doodles are also known as Aussie Bernedoodles, Aussie Mountain Doodles and Swiss Doodles.

Note: We do not breed Australian Bernedoodles which are Australian Labradoodle and Bernese Mountain Dog hybrids. The Australian Labradoodle
